Presentation Abstract: Projects are unique endeavors, as such they are always risky. Knowing the risk value of your project is extremely helpful. This knowledge will enable you to make many important project and organizational decisions. You can compare the project with your risk appetite and then decide to accept or reject the project as an individual or an organization. It also allows you to compare several projects for selecting the most appropriate one. You can also assign the right project manager to the right project.
In this session Dr. Fahmy covers the following topics
- Risk and Risk management definitions
- The difference between project risk and project risks
- What makes a project risky?
- Risk Breakdown Structure
- Introduction of Multi-Criteria Risk Calculation (MCRC) tool
At the completion of the session participants will be able to:

- List Key issues that makes any project risky
- Analyse projects using MCRC tool
- Make decisions based on knowledge rather than gut feeling
Speaker Bio - Dr. Sami Fahmy
Dr. Fahmy is the president of Performance Excellence Institute (PEI). A training and consulting firm located in Edmonton, Alberta. PEI is specialized in supporting organizations through providing expertise and training in project management, risk management, and communication skills. He is a Global Registered Educational Provider (R.E.P) with PMI. Dr. Fahmy is a Professional Engineer, A Project Management Professional (PMP), and Risk Management Professional (RPM). He is a retired adjunct professor from U of A where he taught project management, risk management, and interpersonal communication skills courses. Dr. Sami Fahmy is past president for PMI Northern Alberta Chapter and also past president of Edmonton chapter of Association of Cost Engineers International.
Dr. Fahmy is an International speaker and trainer. He has more than 40 years of hands-on experience covering a wide range of project management challenges. Dr. Fahmy’s expertise covers a wide range of topics including: Project Management and Risk management, quality management, problem solving, decision-making, contract administration and communication skills.

In cooperation with Edmonton Construction Association, Dr. Sami offers a weekly virtual live workshop through Zoom. Two types of workshops
- Communication workshops
- Construction workshops
These course takes place live on zoom Every Friday of every month, There is always a workshop.
All the courses are half a day each (3.5 hours) and they reflect practical applications of construction issues or communication skills
